Jamaica, Stop Dumping Kittens: Why Spaying Your Cat Matters More Than Ever

Every week in Jamaica, tiny kittens are dumped in boxes, bushes, gullies, abandoned buildings, and roadside corners. Some are only a few days old. Many never survive.

At OnlyPaws Cat Rescue Jamaica, we see it constantly. Hungry kittens crying for their mothers. Sick cats struggling to survive on the streets. Rescuers overwhelmed. Families unable to afford food for litter after litter of kittens.

The truth is simple: this problem will never end unless we stop it at the source.

That source is unspayed and unneutered cats.

“Mi cyaan afford it.”

We understand. For many Jamaicans, veterinary costs are expensive. A lot of people genuinely want to do the right thing for their cats but simply cannot afford surgery.

That is exactly why the OnlyPaws Spay & Neuter Grant Program exists.

We help low-income cat owners and rescuers receive support to spay or neuter their cats before more kittens are born into suffering.

Eligible applicants can receive up to a $5000 JMD grant toward spay or neuter surgery.

Because preventing suffering is better than trying to fix it later.

Why Spaying & Neutering Matters

When one female cat continues having litters:

  • More hungry kittens end up on the streets

  • More cats suffer from sickness and injuries

  • More people struggle to feed unwanted kittens

  • More rescues become overcrowded

But when cats are fixed:

  • Fewer kittens are born into hardship

  • Communities experience less stress

  • Cats live healthier lives

  • Rescuers can focus on helping existing cats instead of endless new litters

Spaying and neutering is not cruelty. Allowing endless suffering is.

We Need Jamaica’s Help

This program only works because caring people choose to help.

Every donation helps us provide grants to more Jamaicans who genuinely want to fix their cats but cannot afford the full cost alone.

One surgery can prevent years of suffering. One donation can stop dozens of future kittens from ending up abandoned, hungry, or dying on the streets.
