Story submitted by the grant applicant:
āAnnabelle came into my life completely by chance. A friend of mine had over 15+ cats and was trying to find loving homes for them. Out of all of them, there was one little cat who seemed to choose me. She was so gentle and affectionate that I couldn't leave without her. When I brought her home, I got her a small bell collar because she loved hiding in every little corner of the house. The bell made it much easier to find her, and that's how she got her name, Anna"bell"e. She quickly became a beloved member of our family. My parents were never fans of indoor cats because they grew up believing that "cats are thieves," but Annabelle completely changed their minds. She was never destructive or mischievous. She simply wanted to be around us, curl up beside us, and be loved. Although she had spent her early life outdoors, I worked hard to transition her into being an indoor cat because I didn't want her roaming the streets or ending up with kittens. Unfortunately, she managed to escape one day during one of her heat cycles, and she returned pregnant. Thankfully, she only had two kittens, a little boy and a little girl. Watching her become a mother was beautiful, but I knew I couldn't responsibly keep adding to the number of stray and unwanted cats. We kept her son, but because my mom didn't want another female cat in the house, we spent months potty training her daughter before finding her a loving new family when she was about four months old. Since then, it's become harder watching Annabelle go through each heat cycle. I can tell she's restless and wants to go outside, but every time she does, I worry she'll become pregnant again. I want her to be able to enjoy her life without me constantly fearing another litter. That's why I finally contacted the JSPCA to have her spayed. The problem is that the cost is simply more than my family can comfortably afford. We love Annabelle dearly, but we're not financially well off. This procedure would not only improve her quality of life, but it would also prevent more kittens from being born when there are already so many cats in need of homes. I am asking from the bottom of my heart for your help. Receiving this grant would make it possible for me to give Annabelle the care she deserves and ensure she can live a healthier, happier life without the risks of repeated pregnancies. She has brought so much love and happiness into our home, and I want to do right by her. Please consider helping us. It would mean more to Annabelle and to me than I can put into words.ā
